Christmas cottage break in the West Midlands

Christmas cottage holidays in the West Midlands

West Midlands encompasses the vast city of Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Coventry. Lots of people visit the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

The Christmas break is often viewed as one of the most stressful breaks of the year and one way in which many people attempt to make this break less stressful for themselves is by going away for the holiday season and staying in a holiday cottage. Whether you’re on a romantic break or a family getaway, it is always important that there are things to do while you’re away - and with the shops being totally packed, shopping is probably off the agenda. If you’re looking to go away to the West Midlands for your Christmas break this year, there are plenty of activities that the whole family can join in on and enjoy, besides just the traditional Christmas market. Here are just a few and with a little research, you’re bound to find hundreds more!

Christmas activities

West Midlands encompasses the vast city of Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Coventry. Lots of people visit the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

1. Wightwick Manor (Wolverhampton) - Santa’s Grotto - Wightwick Manor is a stunning National Trust owned stately home set in Wolverhampton. During the Christmas period, the home offers a Santa’s grotto for children where they will receive a gift and also meet Santa himself. There is nothing more magical than meeting Santa when you’re a child so why not do it in a beautiful home too?

2. Trentham Estate (Stoke On Trent) - Ice Rink - The Trentham Estate opens an ice rink during the winter months, the perfect activity for the whole family or a couple on a break away. It is a fun activity that you may not have the chance to try throughout the rest of the year, and there is nothing more magical than skating under the stars on a crisp winters night.

3. West Midlands Safari Park - Santa Safari - The safari park opens its Santa safari from the middle of November and gives visitors the chance to drive through the park once it has been decorated for Christmas. You’ll see rare white tigers and lions on the safari, along with the usual animals and you will be helped out along the way by elves, ensuring that this experience really is made truly magical for the entire family.

4. Black Country Living Museum (Dudley) - The Black Country Living Museum in Dudley usually offers plenty of Christmas events that are sure to appeal to both adults and children. Christmas with the Edwardians was a particularly popular event here in 2012 where you are treated to music, traditional christmas foods and an all round good time. Hopefully, the museum will be repeating this again this year, or at least doing something similar, so it is definitely worth keeping an eye out for any upcoming events.

5. Cadbury World - Cadbury World in Birmingham becomes a grotto when it turns to Christmas, allowing your kids to enjoy a winter wonderland and also to meet Santa. A pantomime is also performed and there is plenty of festive food for you all to tuck into. You’re bound to love Cadbury World no matter how old you are, and there is simply nothing better than seeing the face of a child surrounded by chocolate and Christmas at the same time!
